38 gates of Saptakoshi barrage opened

Dharan (Sunsari), Sep.1: 38  out of 56 sluice gates have been opened as the water level in the Saptakoshi River has risen with an aim to minimize the risk. 

According to Yograj Khatiwada, police spokesperson at the District Police Office, Sunsari, the water current was measured at 273,925 cusecs per second in the Saptakoshi River at 10 PM on Monday.

When the flow of water was measured at 256,010 per second, 34  out of 56 sluice gates were opened at 4 PM on Monday. 

He said that the water level has continued to rise in the river. 

He said, "A red alert is issued to the public after the Koshi River recorded more than 150,000 cusecs of water flow per second."

Police spokesperson Khatiwada said that the water level is rising due to incessant rainfall in the hilly areas.
