Nurturing of art, literature and culture inevitable for prosperity: President Paudel

Kathmandu, Sept 1: President Ramchandra Paudel has said advancement of art, literature, music and culture, along with nurturing of academia is equally inevitable for the country's prosperity. 

Distributing awards to the winners of the National Poetry Festival, 2082, organized by the Nepal Academy here today, President Paudel emphasized on the development of academic sector as mere physical development could not lead the country to prosperity. 

The Head of the State called for the roles of all actors and stakeholders towards safeguarding the glory of Nepal which is a shared space for various languages, ethnicities and cultures. 

He highlighted he Nepal Academy's heightened role to familiarize Nepal's identity across the globe through academic sector. 

"The Academia has spectacular role in keeping glory of Nepal in the global arena as a country with world's highest peak, Mount Everest, along with panoramic mountain ranges, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha – the apostle of peace, and the independent and free nation which has never been subjugated", he added. 

"It is also the responsibility of the Academy to academically establish the hard-earned achievements gained through arduous struggle and sacrifices of the Nepali people. Therefore, I am confident that the Academy will be able and successful in fulfilling its responsibilities effectively." 

President Paudel stated that language and literature are the heartbeat, identity, and soul of a nation. "Literature is the artistic expression of language. Literature and society are complementary to each other. Literature is knowledge, values, culture, and life. The education, messages, awareness, thoughts, and analysis it provides are limitless. Therefore, language, literature, culture, and philosophy are essential in every individual's life," he noted. 

President Paudel congratulated all poets for securing top ten places in the National Poetry Festival 2082 by presenting them with certificates and awards, wishing for the continuous progress of their creative journeys. 

The award recipients include Avinash Bhattarai, Karn Sanjay, Kishan Paudel, Goma Shrestha, Chandramani Chapagai, Tulsi KC, Rama Subedi 'Mirma', Samuel Koirala Bishwakarma, Sandhya Maharjan, and Sirjan Abiral. 

During the event, the Chancellor of the Academy, Bhupal Rai shared that they are currently working embracing the motto 'All Languages, All Knowledge, and All Wisdom' through the Rara Declaration. 

Member Secretary of the Academy, Dr. Dhan Prasad Subedi informed that arrangements have been made to present and evaluate poems in all languages at the poetry festival for the past three years. 

Nepal Academy Member Baba Basnet informed that the poetry festival had started in 2022. Among the awardees at the event, Karn Sanjay recited a poem in Maithili, Tulsi KC recited in Nepali, and Sandhya Maharjan recited in Nepal Bhasa, it is informed. -(RSS)
