Kathmandu, Aug. 4: An art exhibition titled ‘Silk Road Echoes, Art Unites Hearts’, organised to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China, began at the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts on Saturday.
Organised by the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts, the Silk Road Cities Alliance, and the China Cultural Centre in Nepal, the exhibition was inaugurated by former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Sujata Koirala and Chen Song, the Chinese Ambassador to Nepal.
In the event, former Deputy Prime Minister Koirala said that the exhibition would help not only strengthen political ties but also create a hearty connection between the peoples of both countries. She said, “This exhibition connects just not art and culture, it deepens the relationship between the two nations.”
Chancellor of the Academy, Naradmani Hartamchhali, remarked that the exhibition, organised to mark the 70th anniversary of Nepal–China diplomatic ties, would play an important role in cultural diplomacy. He stated that art is not only a medium of expressing beauty but also a bridge that unites.
Ambassador Song said that Nepal–China relations are based on mutual respect, cooperation, and partnership. He expressed his happiness in seeing artists from both nations share a common platform and emphasised the importance of continuing such programs in the future.
Addressing the exhibition, Silk Road Cities Alliance/ Beijing Belt & Road Cooperative Community Secretary General, Wu Bixiu said that the artworks in the exhibition encompass diverse dimensions of the two countries and stressed the importance of organising similar programmes to further strengthen Nepal–China ties in the future.
The exhibition features artworks by Nepali artists including Naradmani Hartamchhali, Kiran Manandhar, KK Karmacharya, Lalkaji Lama, Pradeep Adhikari, Saurganga Darshandhari, Dineshwar Mahato, Sanjay Bantawa, Aruna Hingmang, Man Bahadur Dong, Jigme Lama, Lalman Lama, Nirimaya Lama, Keshav Raj Khanal, Liladhar KC, Damodar Baral, Ujya Raj Bajracharya, NB Gurung, and more.
Likewise, Chinese artists participating in the exhibition include Li Mingquan, He Dong, Lu Hongming, Wang Qihua, Yong Jincheng, Xu Jinping, Lu Dajiang, Zhu Lihong, Zeng Yingchun, Tan Hongjing, Zhang Gouchou, Zhang Dongxia, Lou Hongtai, Xu Xian, Zhang Guangmao.
Pradeep Shakya, a member of the academic council of the Academy, and the group curator are overseeing the exhibition, which will run until August 16.
