Dodhara (Chandani), June 5: The Sudurpashchim Province reports a shortage of COVID-19 testing kits when Nepalis returning from India via the Gauriphanta and Gaddachauki points show the symptoms of COVID-19 infection.
According to the Sudurpashim Province Health Directorate, it has now been unable to carry out the testing for all suspected amidst the shortage of kits.
On Wednesday, three Nepalis, out of 36 tests, tested positive for the virus through an antigen test in Gauriphanta. The Directorate has demanded that the federal and provincial governments ensure sufficient supplies of the kits, said Directorate focal person Hemraj Joshi.
Among the infected who are aged 20-32, one male is from Punarbas of Kanchanpur, one male of Dhakari of Achham and one female of Dhangadhi of Kailali. The test in other entry points has not been possible due to the shortage.
The samples have been sent to the Central Public Health Laboratory, Teku, Kathmandu, for the PCR test.
With the surge of infections in neighbouring India, the risk of COVID-19 spread along the Nepal-India border areas in Sudurpashim Province has increased significantly.
The Department of Health Services under the Ministry of Health and Population has already instructed its subordinate offices, hospitals, and laboratories to remain on standby in preparation for potential infections. (RSS)
