Kanchanpur, May 21: The dream of
Janajali Sarki of Simalkhet in Shuklaphanta municipality-10, Kanchanpur, of
having a safe home is likely to come true very soon.
For a long time, finding a safe
home had been nothing more than a distant dream for her, but now she sees
hope.
NEEDS Nepal is a non-governmental
organization in partnership with the local government is implementing a project
to construct 11 safe houses, targeting impoverished Dalit families in the
area.
Janajali shared the struggles she
faced living in her existing home. "My house leaks during the rains, and
we have to struggle constantly to protect food and other belongings from
getting wet. We also face the risk of bites from poisonous insects. The
emotional pain I experienced when the roof was blown away by strong winds is
hard to put into words."
According to Ward Chair Lal Bahadur Air, the
project aims to build safe homes for the marginalized Dalit families.
Construction is expected to be completed soon, and then the houses will be
handed to the target groups. Each house costs Rs 650,000 to construct, it is
