By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Apr. 14: Novelist Ganesh Prasad Lath has now emerged as a non-fiction writer.

After authoring four novels, he has penned a memoir titled Simanta Samjhana.

The book was launched on Saturday in Kathmandu.

Aditi Sah, a fourth-semester LLB student, Mohan Mainali, along with the book’s commentator Yadav Devkota and the author himself, collectively launched the book.

Issuing a press release, Nepalaya, the publisher, informed that commentator Yadav Devkota shared his thoughts on Simanta Samjhana.

Known for writing on history and culture, Devkota said, “I am often regarded as a critic, sometimes even as a harsh one. But I want to state here unequivocally if someone writes a book like Simanta Samjhana and people still find fault with it, I will still say this book is insightful and worth reading.”

He emphasised that the book is not based on pure imagination nor filled with self-praise.

“It is the result of conversations with hundreds of people, references to dozens of books and articles, and includes rare photographs. Simanta Samjhana is truly a treasure trove of research,” he added.

According to Nepalaya’s editor Bimal Acharya, they decided to publish the book because it combines the engaging style of literature with the rigorous method of non-fiction research.

“This book is both a thesis and a reflective essay,” he said. “Although written by one person, it includes the lived experiences of many, making it a collective memory archive and a piece of public history. The appendices, interview list, references, and photo section make it collectible,” mentioned the press release.

Acharya further added, “Simanta Samjhana tells the story of modernity’s journey in the soil of Birgunj. Without the history of every region, the history of the nation cannot be complete.”

The 332-page Seemanta Samjhana, which includes some colour pages, is priced at Rs. 745.
