BY NETRA SHAHI,Jumla, Apr. 8: In a long-overdue move, the Government of Nepal has inaugurated Land Revenue and Survey Offices in Narakot of Sinja Rural Municipality, as a major milestone for the historically significant Sinja region, the place behind origin of the Nepali language.
The inauguration, led by Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Balram Adhikari, has brought immense joy to the local residents of Sinja, as well as neighboring rural municipalities Hima and Kanakasundari.
Locals had long endured costly and time-consuming travel to the district headquarters for land-related services. The establishment of these offices now brings essential government services to their doorstep. Political leaders and citizens alike expressed their gratitude toward the federal and local governments for addressing this pressing issue.
Sinja Rural Municipality Chairman Purna Prasad Dhital revealed that the offices were set up after completing 22 stages, including decisions by local and district bodies, departmental recommendations, ministry-level approvals and ultimately a Cabinet decision. The process began after the 2022 local elections, when Dhital prioritised the issue upon assuming office due to widespread public hardship.
Notably, Dhital even continued efforts despite health issues, emphasising the significance of this accomplishment. The final decision to establish the offices was made on February 3 under the leadership of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, following earlier initiatives that began during Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s tenure.
He also thanked the government for its support and urged further assistance in infrastructure development. Thousands of residents gathered for the event, celebrating with music, dance and heartfelt gratitude. The minister and departmental officials were warmly welcomed and given a grand farewell.
Former Constituent Assembly member and Karnali Province Minister Naresh Bhandari called the office establishment a realisation of a dream 814 kilometres away from Singha Durbar. He expressed hope that past struggles faced by locals such as traveling to Jumla Bazaar for basic services are now over.
With the new Land Revenue and Survey Offices, government service delivery in Sinja has become more integrated and efficient. Previously, an area administration office was set up nearly 18 years ago, from which citizenship and national ID cards are now issued.
Assistant Chief District Officer of Banke and Sinja native Umakanta Adhikari said that the new offices strengthen the integrated service centre and mark a significant step in government decentralisation.
