Gandaki, Feb 27: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has said the use of social networks must be well managed and respected.
Putting forth his views during a session on 'communications dialogue' organized as part of the 12nd Nepal Literature Festival in Pokhara city on Thursday, Minister Gurung viewed it was essential to regulate the use and operation of social networking sites. The event was organized by the Bookworm Foundation.
"Government has taken ahead the bill on social networking sites to curb the growing anarchy in digital platforms," he said, arguing that it would ultimately suppress freedom of expression at all if not regulated.
As many social networks are not registered in Nepal, government wants registered hereafter.
The Minister further vowed the protection of free speech and right to information. Anarchy and indiscipline cannot be tolerated, he added.
He further argued the social harmony must not be disrupted owing the anarchy in social media platforms.(RSS)
