By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 7: The Central committee members of the ruling CPN-UML have called on the party leadership to put an end to factionalism and the rising influence of opportunists in the party.

Speaking at the central committee meeting on Monday, the members expressed concerns that factionalism was hampering the party's ability to engage with the public and had even impacted lower-level committees, according to Rajendra Gautam, the head of the party's publicity department.

The UML central committee meeting began on Sunday continued discussing the political report presented by party chairman KP Sharma Oli for the second day on Monday.

Gautam said that 98 central committee members shared their views on the report. The main focus of the discussions has been on improving the effectiveness of the government and addressing issues in party building, Gautam added. Talking to press after the meeting, Gautam stated that central committee members emphasised that the party would not tolerate factionalism and urged that any such activities should be closely monitored.

“The members who spoke have especially focused on resolving the issues observed in party construction,” Gautam said. “Factionalism has no place in the party. There is a need to identify and control those who engage in such activities.”

Additionally, the members raised concerns about implementing the proposed action plan for running a ward-centered organisation campaign aimed at strengthening the party and improving its relationship with the public. The members stressed that all leaders must work together to move forward.

The members also highlighted the need to distinguish between those working in the party’s interest and those working solely for personal gain, Gautam noted.

Gautam also shared that 27 members voiced their opinions on the first day of the meeting while 56 members spoke on the second day. He said that party chairman Oli would respond to the questions raised by members during Tuesday's session.

Meanwhile, the CPN-UML has introduced series of party programmes under eight headings aimed at ensuring the success of 'Mission-2027,' the upcoming general election.

The proposed programmes are based on the resolutions adopted during the national general convention representative council meeting, as outlined in the political report presented by party chairman Oli.

The programmes included understanding and explaining the campaign, implementation of the annual action plan, making party schooling permanent and more effective, implementation of the sugesstions of the organisational departments, condemning false and misleading propaganda, connecting with good governance, development, and entrepreneurship, making the ruling-coalition successful and expanding the party.
