By Amar Raj Naharki,Tanahun, Apr. 19: Devotees in Tanahun observed Mata Tirtha Aunsi (Mother's Day) by offering food to cows on Friday. Recognising cows as revered maternal figures within the Hindu religion and culture, numerous people visited the Cow Conservation Centre in Shishuwa Bhateri, Byas Municipality-10.
During Matatirtha Aunsi, residents of Kathmandu, Hira KC and Tika KC, said that cow service is the highest expression of respect for mothers, whilst providing food to cows at the centre.
They stated, “It is a commendable virtue to serve the cow alongside one’s own mother on Mother’s Day. Both mother and cow embody love.” Tulsiram Sapkota, chairman of the Cow Conservation Centre and former ward chairman of Ward No. 10 of Byas Municipality, said that increased participation of devotees in cow service during Matatirtha Aunsi was heartwarming.
He said, “Presently, the centre cares for 150 cows. It is good to observe the rising trend of individuals investing in cow care instead of expenditure on meat and alcohol during special occasions such as birthdays, weddings, and festivals like today.”
Covering an area of 300 ropanis, the centre responsibly manages aged and abandoned cows that have ceased producing milk. Highlighting the centre’s development, Byas Municipality Mayor Baikuntha Neupane stated, “The municipality has established this as a proud initiative for stray animal management and the preservation of Hindu culture.” The Cow Conservation Centre diligently provides proper care for the cows by maintaining grasslands along the banks of the Madi River and procuring feed, bran, and straw with support from donors.
