By Our Correspondent,Rukum West, Dec. 6: A total of 110 eye patients have successfully undergone cataract surgery during a two-day free eye treatment and cataract surgery camp held at Chaurjahari Hospital, Rukum West.
The camp, which also included eye examinations and the distribution of medicines, was organised by Chaurjahari Municipality in coordination with the Human Development and Community Service, Chaurjahari Hospital on December 1 and 2. The event received financial support from the Tilganga Eye Foundation’s Cure Blindness Project and technical assistance from the Nepal Red Cross Society and Surkhet Eye Hospital.
According to Sher Prasad Dhakal, Acting Chief Administrative Officer of the Municipality, before the surgery camp, cataract screening was conducted at various health institutions. The surgery camp specifically catered to patients who had been diagnosed with cataracts during those screenings. Dhakal shared that a total of 610 people, including 271 men and 339 women, underwent eye examinations, with 110 of them receiving cataract surgery.
Mayor Pushpa Badi of Chaurjahari Municipality noted that the camp not only served residents of Chaurjahari but also attracted eye patients from surrounding municipalities in Rukum Wetst, Jajarkot, and Salyan.
Mayor Badi explained that the camp was designed to assist those who could not afford eye treatment due to financial constraints, with a particular focus on senior citizens.
“More than 100 citizens have regained their eyesight thanks to this initiative,” said Mayor Badi. “Our local government is committed to improving healthcare for all, and we continue to prioritise health programmes targeting vulnerable populations," he added.
