Kathmandu, Nov 6: The social media platform, 'TikTok' has been officially registered at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology on Tuesday.
The popular social media application has been registered as per the provision Section 3 (1) of the Guidelines for Regulation of the Use of Social Media - 2080 BS. As per the provision individuals, companies or organizations who wish to operate a social media platform must register themselves at the Ministry in accordance with the Guidelines.
The meeting of the Council of Ministers on October 24 had decided to list TikTok.
Stating that there was some delay due to Dashain and Tihar festivals, Mamata Bastola, information officer and under secretary at the ministry informed that the TikTok social media platform has been duly listed in the ministry on Tuesday.
The ministry had issued a statement urging all social networking sites operating in Nepal to register as per the Guidelines. Accordingly, along with 'TikTok', 'Viber' and 'We Talk' have been registered at the ministry.
"Other social networks are in the process of being enlisted," Under Secretary Bastola said.(RSS)
