By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Oct 29: Press Center Nepal (PCN) has expressed concerned over prestige of the public media houses.

Issuing a joint statement on Tuesday, Chairpersons of the PCN Gorkhapatra branch, Radio Nepal, Nepal Television and Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) expressed the concern over the ways partisan interests of the ruling parties have impacted the production and dissemination of news reports in the public media house following the recent change in the government, which has gone against values of free press.

“A serious question has been raised about the reliability of the government media houses,” the PCN argued.

PCN also argued that professional security of the journalists working in such media has also surfaced because of the recent activities of recruitment, transfer, promotion or demotion, hyping and reducing of facilities to the journalists on the basis of their political orientation.

Such activities will eventually make the public media houses weak, and we are very much concerned, read the PCN statement.

The PCN has demanded that the management of the concerned public media houses should immediately improve their activities that are counterproductive to the media and maintain prestige of the public media houses by ensuring professional security of the journalists and the employees and disseminating news fairly.
