Thini locals mark Fala festival

By Thakur Prasad Acharya,Myagdi, Sept. 2: Thini village popularly known for its homestays in Mustang have celebrated the Fala festival, a cultural festival of Thakali community. 

Thakali community in Thini village of Gharapjhong Rural Municipality  celebrated the Fala festival with great enthusiasm. 

According to Niraj Thakali, secretary of the Local Janamukti Yuwa Club, the two-day festival falling on Saturday and Sunday was celebrated by performing yak dance, Dhungri dance and warrior dance from the era of King Thakorchen, as well as cultural programmes and traditional dramas.

He said, “We want to continue the festival to preserve local culture, keep traditions alive and pass them on to the new generation. With both domestic and international tourists flocking to Thini for the festival, the local homestays are fully booked.”

Meanwhile, tourists arrived in Thini village to enjoy the Fala festival. This festival marks the end of the farming season and the beginning of the winter season. 

Ward Chairman Pradeep Thakali said, “Fala festival is the identity of the Thakali community. Both the older and younger generations are coming together to preserve our traditional culture.”

He said that the residents of Thini are continuously maintaining traditional fairs and festivals to preserve the Thakali culture, civilisation and to pass it on to future generations. 

He said that they aimed to promote tourism while preserving local art and culture.
