Lemon farming growing in Nawalpur

By Mina Kandel, Kawasoti, Aug 9: The head of the project for the Prime Minister Agriculture Modernization Program, Nawalpur, Sunil Kumar Sinha, said that there is a rise in the number of lemon farmers.  

Sinha said that commercial lemon farming extended to 200 hectares of land. 

Program Officer of agriculture and information officer of Prime Minister Agriculture Modernization Department, Nawalpur, Rana Bahadur Mahato has said that the fruit zone program is implemented in Bulingtar, Baudikali rural municipality, Hupsekot-5, Devchuli-6, Madhyabindu-8, Gaindakot for the production of orange variety lemon.

Narendra Kumar KC of Madhyabindu Municipality Nawalpur-8 has said that there is a good earning from lemon farming. He had shifted from goat farming. 

The consumers buy lemons at Rs 100 kg from the farmland.

Lemon production recorded 50 metric tons in 2079/80. 

Representative of the Prime Minister Agriculture Modernization Program has said that it has earned Rs 60 lakh.

“In 2080-81, the total earning was Rs 14.6 million from 1625 metric tons”, the information office Mahto informed. 

The data showed that lemon farming in Nawalpur is spread over 818 hectares of land. 

There is a 50 per cent subsidy for seedlings, 85 per cent for irrigation, 50 per cent for agriculture tools, free technical service, and 85 per cent subsidy in the collection centre.
