By Thakur Prasad Acharya,Myagdi, Apr. 22: Taxpayer services have been launched for the first time from Beni Municipality in Myagdi.
The service was formally inaugurated on Tuesday following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Chief Administrative Officer Arjun Sharma of Beni Municipality and Chief Tax Officer Kapil Silwal of the Inland Revenue Office, Baglung.
The service has been introduced in line with the federal government’s decision of November 3, 2025 to provide taxpayer services through local levels. Beni Municipality is the first in Myagdi to begin such services.
With the launch, services including registration of personal and institutional PAN (Permanent Account Number) will now be available from the municipality, said Mayor Surat KC. He expressed hope that the initiative would make services more accessible to the public and help improve the effectiveness of tax administration.
Silwal, Chief Tax Officer at the Inland Revenue Office, Baglung, said the move would strengthen administrative federalism and support the decentralisation of tax administration, thereby making local governments more capable.
According to him, the service has already been rolled out in a few local units within the jurisdiction of the Baglung tax office, including Galkot Municipality in Baglung, Painyu Rural Municipality in Parbat and Beni Municipality in Myagdi. There are plans to regularly expand the service to other local levels in the remaining districts.
He added that providing taxpayer services from local governments would end the need for people in remote areas to travel to Baglung, making service delivery more efficient.
Chief Administrative Officer Sharma said that four staff members from the municipality’s revenue section had been trained and the necessary equipment arranged to deliver the service.
The new service is expected to ease access for taxpayers, reduce the time and cost of tax payments, strengthen the revenue base of local governments, and contribute to good governance.
A Cabinet decision on November 3 had scrapped taxpayer service offices. The programme, which initially began through treasury and comptroller offices, is now being implemented through local governments.
