Thapa's Matipuran launched

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Apr. 22: A humour and satire collection titled 'Matipuran,' authored by senior journalist Baldev Thapa, was formally launched in Banepa recently. 

The book was jointly unveiled by his son Uddhab Thapa and daughter-in-law Sirjana Thapa.

Speaking at the event, Thapa shed light on the themes and content of the book. 

"I welcome political change; however, the prevailing anomalies compelled me to write these satires,” he said.

According to him, Matipuran is not related to religion. "It is related to ethics," he remarked. "It is called a puran (myth) because ethics today has become a mere once-upon-a-time story."The book also presents a preface penned by noted satirist Ram Kumar Pandey.

"Thapa tickles us with thought rather than pinching," Pandey writes in his preface. "That's why these satirical pieces will not be outdated anytime soon."

Published by Shabdayatra Publication, 'Matipuran' marks Thapa’s third literary work. His earlier publications include Ba ko Bam (My Father's Leftism, a historical account) and Kurako Sasti (a collection of satirical poems).

The volume comprises 108 satirical write-ups written in a dialogic style. The 264-page book is priced at Rs. 500.

Thapa began his journalism career in 2032 BS. Born in 2007, BS in Gundu, Bhaktapur, he was an editor at various weekly newspapers, including Saptahik Nepali Awaj.
