New acts and rules to operate Gorkhapatra within a year: Minister Gurung

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Aug 2: Communication and Information Technology Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung has said new acts and rules that operate Gorkhapatra Corporation will be brought and implemented within a year.

Saying that due to King Mahendra-era's acts and rules corporation failed to achieve the expected development, Minister Gurung said that to make the corporation up to date new acts and rules are needed.   

Visiting Corporation after taking responsibility for the Communication Ministry, on Friday Minister Gurung said "We will build new acts and rules for the operation of Gorkhapatra, we will start developing a new system, and we will complete this task within one year."


He said that the Gorkhapatra Corporation, which has a history of 124 years and is run traditionally, is necessary to manage the manpower to run up to date. He said that Gorkhapatra can be made a contemporary competitor if information technology-equipped manpower can be produced.

Ministry's Secretary Radhika Aryal expressed her commitment that the Ministry will continue to support the development of the corporation.


Corporation's Executive Chairman Bishnu Prasad Subedi briefed about the corporation's progress and challenges to Minister Gurung and Minister's Secretary.

Saying that the corporation succeeded in being independent, Chirman Subedi added that for the corporation's sustainability government's continuous help and cooperation are necessary.


Gorkhapatra Corporation's general Manager Lal Bahadur Airi said that due to the combined effort of leadership and staff corporation was not at a loss. Though being a government media Gorkhapatra conveys people's voice with priority, he said.
