'Allow operation of nursing colleges that meet criteria'

Kathmandu, Aug 1: The Education, Health and Technology Committee of the House of Representatives has directed the government and CTEVT to permit operation of nursing colleges which have met the required criteria.     

The Committee meeting held today directed the CTEVT (Council of Technical Education and Vocational Training) that it allowed running nursing classes in the nursing institutions from the coming academic session. The meeting underlined the need for amending both the CTEVT Act, 2054; and National Medical Education Act, 2075 for the same.     

Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Bidya Bhattarai, said CTEVT needs reset. Reform at CTEVT is urgent because huge number of students was lodging complaints against its performance.     

Similarly, Committee Chair Ambar Bahadur Thapa shared that they took such decision because students must not be deprived of nursing education and the nursing institutions left in limbo.     

Various institutions, CTEVT, Medical Education Commission and members of the Committee held discussion on how the legal and practical hurdles could be removed.     

The institutions had complained that they were deprived of running nursing classes despite meeting criteria. The CTEVT however said the Commission was behind this obstruction.     

On the other hand, the Commission argued the CTEVT was not working as per law.(RSS)
