Kathmandu, July 18: Newly appointed Attorney General Ramesh Badal has said that he will discharge his responsibilities in such manner that the victims will experience justice.

Taking charge of his office today, he said he will carry out works fulfilling the authority given by the Constitution and existing laws so that the victims get justice.

"To give justice to the victims is the responsibility of this Office; we will fulfill our responsibility remaining within the constitutional jurisdiction. We will prosecute only the accused persons," Attorney General Badal said.

He suggested the Government Attorneys to move ahead only after a thorough study of the case, saying the Government Attorneys are considered the first judges.

Noting that the Office of the Attorney General is the body that prosecutes and gives proper legal advice to the government, and also defends the government in cases against it, Attorney General Badal expressed his commitment to fulfilling the constitutional responsibility.

He said that discussions would be held for determining the criteria of the penalty system and the compensation, and sought cooperation from all sides in bringing uniformity in the prosecutions.

In the presence of President Ramchandra Paudel, Chief Justice Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly-appointed Attorney General Ramesh Badal at a ceremony organized at the Sheetal Niwas today.

The President on Wednesday appointed Badal to the post of Attorney General on the recommendation of the Prime Minister. Badal served as the Attorney General for a short stint before this as well. (RSS)
