Kathmandu, May 16: Four community schools, including the Naxal-based Central Secondary School for the Deaf, secured a hundred percent pass rate (graded) in the School Education Examinations (SEE) 2082 BS. The results were published on May 11.

The Deaf School established in 2023 BS, along with the Shram Rastriya Secondary School, Kumarigal; Bal Byabasayee Kendra Secondary School, Sifal and Bal Sewa Secondary School, Jhonce, achieved a hundred percent passed results.

The Central Secondary School for the Deaf has continued to secure the cent percent success rate since 2055 BS.

According to school principal, Upendra Yadav, the achievement was possible due to the continuous efforts of the school family and the students. This year, 21 deaf students attended the SEE.

Teaching learning activities for such students are assisted by video clips. "Despite various challenges, we have continued to celebrate the total pass rate for the past 27 years," the principal said.

Similarly, Assistant Head Teacher of Shram Rastriya Secondary School, Saroj Khanal, said the school has been continuously celebrating a hundred percent pass results since 2072 BS.

As he said, the school remains closed only during festivals. The regular classes have been ensured for compulsory subjects such as Mathematics, Science and English. He credited the roles of subject teachers and the hard work of students for securing good results.  Similarly, its average GPA is also outstanding, and the school has been receiving the award from the Kathmandu Metropolitan City for the past three years.

The Bal Byabasayee School which was established in 2028 BS also enrolls students with physical disabilities. School principal Ramchandra Dhungana said the school has secured complete graded results for the past two years.

During the SEE 2082 BS, a total of 33 students attended the examinations. The school also provides knitting and stitching training and jobs to the guardians of the students so that they can create some income to support their children's education.

At present, there are 427 students at the school, including 89 with physical disabilities.

'The Metropolis's investment making things easier for us'

This time, the Bal Sewa Secondary School at Jhochhen, emerged as one among the schools secured a 100 percent result in the SEE.

In the past, it was very difficult even to retain children in this school due to the lack of physical infrastructures and adequate resources.

Manju Pathak, Principal of the School, mentioned that the investment made by the Kathmandu Metropolis in education coupled with the continuous hard work of the school family has made it easier both to retain children and to provide quality teaching and learning.

According to her, around 90 percent of the children in this school are from economically disadvantaged families.

She shared that despite the will of the school, once enrollment of the students from such backgrounds are done, there hardly comes a situation where the school management can sit with the parents of such students and discuss improving learning of the students.

She explained, "There's a notion among the parents of such students that once the enrollment is over, all responsibility is rested on the shoulder of the school."

Principal Pathak complained that the parents do not tend to be thoughtful about whether their children possess notebooks and pens, school uniforms. She rued that the parents are also indifferent about if their children are studying well and attending to school regularly or not.

"We have been arranging food supplies and stationery items for some destitute children's home with the support of some social organizations. Despite the odds, we have been bringing good results," she gushed.

'Every year, the KMC's improving results'

Namaraj Dhakal, the Chief of Education Department at the KMC, informed that a total of 76.75 per cent of the KMC's students were 'graded' in the SEE this year.

He viewed that this year's SEE results were satisfactory in schools. This year, a total of 4,167 students from 60 schools in the KMC had appeared in the exam against 4,085 examinees in the last year.

Among those sitting for the SEE last year, 3,109 students (76.08 percent) were graded. This year, among the examinees, the number of students obtaining GPA 3.6 to 4 stands at 543.

Likewise, the number of students obtaining GPA 3.2 to 3.6 this year is 1,004; those obtaining GPA between 2.8 to 3.2 are 1,153 and those bagging GPA between 2.4 to 2.8 are 469.

Similarly, 14 students clinched GP between 2 to 2.4.

Last year, 774 students had obtained GPA between 3.6 to 4 while 1,156 students had received GPA between 3.2 to 3.6.

The number of students who had got GPA between 2.4 to 3.2 was 902 while number of those obtaining GPA between 2 to 2.8 had remained at 246.

Fourteen students had obtained GPA between 2 to 2.4 last year, according to the Education Department of the KMC.

This way, by the look of results, the number of students delivering excellent results is increasing while the number of students obtaining lower-level GPAs is declining.

Last year, 976 students came out as 'non-graded,' whereas this year the number slightly came down to 969.

Knowledgeable persons viewed that students' hard work, teachers' dedication and the additional classes run by the KMC even in the holidays and its special monitoring resulted in better performances of the students.

Education Officer of the KMC, Keshav Gyawali, argued that the Book-Free Friday programme, which was introduced to ensure effective learning system and promote stress-free learning, made outstanding contributions to arouse students' interests to learning.

"Improving learning among the students is the priority of the metropolitan city to bring about transformation in education. Reform programmes are being implemented in the same spirit by understanding the reasons behind the poor learning among the students," he added.

He further stated that teachers' training programmes are being run to enhance the skills of teachers, and educational materials and equipment have been availed at the classrooms. (RSS)
