Lisbon (Portugal), July 16: Representatives from various associations of emigrants recently met Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and requested him for correcting the immigration policy.

A delegation led by Emigrants' Solidarity Association, Timoteo Macedo, met President de Sousa, and made such request. Also present in the delegation, member of NRNA coordination council, Raj Kumar Thapa, informed that the Portuguese President was made aware that recent change in immigration policy in Portugal would create problems for migrants.

Millions of emigrants were adversely affected by the policy change, so the President was urged not to tighten the policy, Thapa added.

President de Sousa also showed interest in the issue and informed that his attention was drawn towards this.

A memorandum signed by representatives of 51 associations of migrant people was submitted to the Portuguese President. (RSS)
