Kathmandu, April 23: A report titled 'Energy Consumption Growth and Export Strategy-2083 BS' has been submitted to Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha.

The report aims at establishing energy sector as a fundamental pillar of economic transformation.

A high-level study committee was formed under the leadership of Joint Secretary Sandip Kumar Dev to formulate the energy consumption and export strategy in line with the 100-point governance reform agenda approved by the Cabinet on March 27.

The strategy presents a long-term plan to enhance post-consumption energy exports, focusing on a substantial increase in domestic consumption of electricity. The document advocates a thorough reform of the transmission and distribution system, targeting 100% household electrification. It stresses gradual reduction of LP gas usage by promoting electrical appliances, while also enhancing the efficiency of meters and transformers.

Currently, the per capita energy consumption stands at around 450 kilowatt hours, with the potential to rise to 1,500 kilowatt hours over the next decade. Prioritization of electric vehicles is underlined in the public transportation sector along with the expansion of charging stations.(RSS)
