By Our Correspondent,Humla, May.1: An initial track of the Humla section of the Karnali Corridor has been opened at the rocky slope of Chhahare.

The Nepali Army was assigned the task of building the road by using explosives and machines and building retention walls to complete the track-opening work within the set deadline.

Amrit Parajuli, head of the Nepali Army Road Development Team of Dulli Kuna to Lalibagar, said that the opening of the initial track of the road has been completed.

He said that the road was constructed by blasting 500 meters of the cliff of Chhahare and now works of grading, adjusting of gabion and widening of the road are in progress.

Currently, five to seven meters of the road has been widened using the machines. A 50-meter-long cliff was cleared to open the road. The cliff was blasted by the Nepali Army in one and a half years.

Parajuli also mentioned that although the track has been opened, some structures are still being built so traffic movements cannot be allowed for a few days.

People and carts are allowed to move during the morning and evening but are stopped in the afternoon when work is in progress.

The Chhahare section of the 11km road between Dulli Kuna and Lalibagar is the most difficult part of opening the track.

Previously the Nepali Army constructed roads by blasting the rocky slopes of 100 meters in Lalibagar and 150 meters in the Sunkhada sector. They also constructed roads from Chhahare to Lyapche and Chhahare to Lalibagar.

The Army started work in the section in March of 2022. Although initial track have been opened, transportation service has not been allowed.

However, based on the recommendation of the local administration, the vehicles necessary for the construction of Hilsa Simkot’s road project from Kharpu to Hisla are allowed to pass through during the morning and evening.

The Army is scheduled to finish the road construction and handover process by mid-June.
