By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 26: The Bagmati ‘Provincial Fine Arts Exhibition 2080’ started on Monday in Kathmandu.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Hit Bahadur Tamang amid a programme held at the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA).

Speaking at the programme, Minister Tamang said that through the art exhibition, he had an opportunity to get to know the art of Bagmati Province.

He emphasised that Bagmati Province boasts geographic diversity alongside rich art and culture, emphasising that exhibitions serve a crucial role in preserving and promoting these aspects.

Additionally, the Minister emphasised that inspiration from old artists, creation by new ones, and a combination of both would help contribute to the country’s economy.

Likewise, Narad Mani Hartamchhali, the chancellor of the NAFA, said that fine arts played a significant role in the development and promotion of art.

He said that priority should be given to the arts that are in the shadows, adding that the work being done in collaboration with the academy in the province and municipality has yielded positive results.

Lalkaji Lama, the vice-chancellor of the Academy and coordinator of the Bagmati Province Coordinating Committee, said that the participation of the young generation in the exhibition was encouraging.

He said that the Nepali fine arts sector should be enriched from the local level and connected with business.

Member Secretary Devendra Kumar Kafle ‘Thumkeli’ said that in line with the Constitution of Nepal 2072 BS, the Academy had started the exhibition in Bagmati Province after holding exhibitions in six provinces for the first time in the series of ‘Provincial Fine Arts Exhibition’ in seven provinces.

He opined that this exercise done by the Academy has helped protect and promote the indigenous art of the provinces.

In the art exhibition, leading artists who have continuously worked in the field of Nepali fine arts, such as Baburaj Dyahla, Gautam Ratna Tuladhar, Chanda Shrestha, Mira Bhattarai, Saila Lama ‘Mangal’, Purna Prasad Hyoju and Pushpanjali Sherchan were honoured for their significant contributions to the promotion of fine arts.

In the exhibition, more than 241 artworks of 210 artists are put on display under various genres, including contemporary painting/sculpture, traditional painting/sculpture, folk art, handicraft, architecture, and other creative arts.

The exhibition will run until March 29.
