By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 14: Mayor Harka Sampang of Dharan Sub-metropolitan City has announced plans to incorporate the Nepali film sector into the municipal budget for the upcoming year.
Speaking at the ‘Mahajatra with Local Government: Cinema Dialogue’ event held in Dharan, Mayor Sampang expressed his strong support for art, culture and Nepali cinema.
“I am committed to allocating funds for Nepali films in our budget. Dharan has demonstrated a keen interest in the film industry, and personally, I am deeply fervent in promoting art, culture and literature,” Mayor Sampang said.
He also revealed plans to publish a directory of shooting locations to facilitate film production in Dharan.
Mayor Sampang praised actor Haribansha Acharya, acknowledging his contribution to spreading laughter and joy through his performances.
He encouraged the public to support Nepali cinema by watching movies in theatres, stressing the importance of easing the workload on prolific actors like Acharya.
Actor Haribansha Acharya expressed his enthusiasm for filming in Dharan, citing his positive experience shooting his film ‘Balidan’ there.
He welcomed Mayor Sampang’s initiative, noting the need for new locations and audiences to invigorate the industry.
Rabindra Singh Baniya, the executive producer of the film ‘Mahajatra,’ expressed their anticipation for cooperation from the local government, rather than expecting significant support.
He urged Mayor Sampang to simplify matters, pointing out potential confusion ranging from location hunting to the filming process of the movie.
Lead actor Bipin Karki highlighted the importance of cleanliness at shooting locations, suggesting that improving this area would enhance productivity.
Actress Barsha Raut emphasised the need for a supportive working environment, particularly for female actors facing unique challenges during filming.
At the event, representatives from various industry organisations discussed the challenges faced by the drama and film sectors in Dharan and proposed potential solutions.
Meanwhile, the team behind the film ‘Mahajatra’ is currently engaged in promotional activities across Nepal ahead of its release on March 22.
