Food camp organised for street people

blog

By Bishnu Prasad Pokharel,Damak, Mar. 4: Everyone should be serious about the problem of the street children and people, said the organisers of the ‘one-day meal camp’ in Damak, Jhapa. The problems could not be solved by having a negative attitude towards the street people, they said.

HDNP International Nepal organised the food camp at the main junction in Damak. According to Milan Acharya, coordinator of HDNP International Nepal, more than 143 street people enjoyed the food of their choice in the camp.

Ram Kumar Thapa, Mayor of Damak Municipality, human rights activists and representatives of social organisations among others were present at the camp. Acharya said that they would work closely with the local government in favour of the people deprived of basic human needs such as food, shelter, clothing, clean drinking water and proper education.

Mayor Thapa said that they have taken the initiative to make Damak free from street people. "We will not allow the residents of Damak to stay hungry in lack of food," he said. He said that the food programme was organised for the needy.
