Janakpur Literature and Int’l Theatre Festival from today

By Our Correspondent,Janakpur, Feb.1: A five-day ‘Janakpur Literature and International Theatre Festival’ is set to begin in Janakpur on Thursday. The festival will run from Thursday to Monday and will take place at the Mahendra Narayan Nidhi Mithila Cultural Centre in Janakpurdham, it was announced during a press conference organised on Wednesday by the Maithili Development Fund.

CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal will inaugurate the festival while Chief Minister of Madhes Province Saroj Kumar Yadav will participate in the closing ceremony,  informed the organisers.

The festival aims to spread the Maithili language, literature, and culture, featuring discussions on more than 20 contemporary issues spanning art, literature, social, political, cultural, economic and other issues.

 Additionally, the festival will showcase drama, music, and literature from India and Nepal, with Nepali and Indian artists performing in various languages, including Maithili, Nepali, Hindi, Assamese and Bengali.

The event is expected to bring together academics, social advocates, creative minds and political figures from both Nepal and India, informed the organiser. 

 Organised biennially since 2073 BS, the fourth edition of the festival is supported by the Government of Madhes Province and Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City.
