Police HQ sends new DSP in Lalitpur after Balkumari incident

By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Jan. 5: In replacement of suspended Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Umesh Lamsal, the Police Headquarters, Naxal, has sent  DSP Sudhir Rai to the District Police Range, Lalitpur.  

DSP Umesh Lamsal, working in Lalitpur Police Range, has been suspended after two youths were killed in firing during the protest at the EPS office in Balkumari last Friday. Lamsal was suspended a day after the deaths of Sujan Rawat of Dailekh and Birendra Shah of Achham. 

According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and the Central Spokesperson for the Police Headquarters, Kuber Kadayat, DSP Rai was sent in place of DSP Lamsal. 

EPS office chief Guru Dutta Subedi, DSP Lamsal and Physical Infrastructure and Transport Minister Prakash Jwala’s PSO Police Assistant Inspector (ASI) Bodhraj Danuwar were suspended following the incident. No one has been sent to the EPS office yet. The Headquarters has also not sent a police chief for the District Police Range, Lalitpur after SSP Siddi Bikram Shah has been pulled from his duties to the Headquarters. 

Further, the Home Ministry has not yet sent new Chief District Officer in Lalitpur after pulling Rudra Prasad Pandit to the Ministry. 

The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security has also not transferred anyone to replace Subedi.
