By Bomlal Giri, Nawalpur, Dec 20: Ginger has become a main source of income for the farmers in the hilly areas of the Nawalpur district.
Ginger farmers here are elated as their product has got a good price
this year compared to the last year.
Til Bahadur Pulami of Bulingtar ward-4, Deurali started growing ginger in 8 ropanis after returning from foreign employment. He said that the price of ginger recorded Rs 50 per 2.50 kg (1 Dharni) last year. But this year, its price rose to Rs 180 per kg. He is encouraged after earning Rs 2 lakhs in a year from this farming.
Another youth farmer Prem Ale is growing in 6 ropanis. He said that it is generation income of Rs 2 lakhs in a year.
Chairperson of Bulingtar ward no. 4, Min Bahadur Ale said that farmers of Deurali (85 households) are earning Rs 1-4 lakhs from the ginger farming.
The chairperson said that farmers sell dry ginger if the price of raw ginger declines. The price of dried ginger cost Rs 1 thousand per 2.50 kg (Dharni).
There are two collection centers so farmers need not have to worry about the market.
Nawalpur is known for ginger farming. According to Agriculture Knowledge Center, Nawalpur, there was ginger farming in 9-hectare area last year.
According to Agriculture Knowledge Centre Agriculturist Sanjay Dhakal, 9800 metric tons of ginger is produced in the 9-hectare areas.
Dhakal informed that ginger of Rs 30 crores was supplied from the District last year.
