Mt Everest summiteers felicitated in Canberra

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Dec 19: Embassy of Nepal, Canberra has organized a 'Mt Everest Summiteers' Felicitation Program', on the occasion of International Mountain Day, in coordination with the Australian Himalayan Foundation with the objective of tourism promotion of Nepal in Canberra.

According to the Embassy of Nepal Canberra, Mt Everest climbers from Australia, the Assistant Secretary from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) of Australia, representatives from the Australian Himalayan Foundation, Reach for Nepal, Australian media and Nepali Community leaders were present in the program.

Ambassador Kailash Raj Pokharel welcomed the guests and delivered a welcome remark highlighting the tourist destinations of Nepal including the breathtaking snow-capped high Himalayas.

Commending the heroic achievement of summiting the highest mountain of the World situated in Nepal, the Ambassador thanked for promoting Nepal in Australia and extending their helping hands towards Nepalis through different charity and non-profit organizations.

Addressing the program, first Australian Mt. Everest climber Greg Mortimer described his experience of climbing Mt Everest. He thanked the Embassy for organising such programs that provided the opportunity to gather all mountain climbers together.

Five times Mt. Everest climber Lakpa Sherpa also appreciated the program and collaborated on the records set by Nepali climbers.

Andrew Judge, CEO of the Australian Himalayan Foundation, the youngest Australian Mt Everest climber Gabrielle Kanizay, and George Hillary (Grandson of Sir Edmund Hillary) were other speakers in the program who praised the beautiful Himalayas of Nepal. They thanked the Embassy of Nepal for felicitating the Australian Mt Everest climbers.

37 Australian Mt Everest climbers were felicitated with a Letter of Recognition, Nepali Khada and Nepal Flag-pin.
