More women adopting permanent sterilization than men in Banke

By Gajendra Gurung, Khajura, Dec 7: More women are found adopting permanent sterilization, a family planning measure, than men in the Banke District. 

In the free permanent sterilization mobile camp that is being run in different parts of the district, it is found that there is more participation of women than men in using permanent family planning measures. It is organized by the Health Office, Banke and had technical assistance from the Family Planning Association of Nepal (FPAN).

Naresh Babu Shrestha, focal person at the Health Office, Banke, shared that in the mobile camp organized in different parts of the district for permanent sterilization, a family planning measure, 49 people participated in the process. Of them, 44 were females and only five were males. 

Shrestha, the Focal person of the Health Office, Banke, said seven women went through permanent sterilization At the same time, there was no participation of men in the campaign organized at Betahani Health Post, Duduwa Rural Municipality -2, on Wednesday. 

In the mobile camp organized in the Rapti Sonari  Hospital, Bujapur,  located at Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality-4, one male and 14 female, making a total of 15 people did permanent sterilization.  

11 people, three males and eight females participated in the mobile camp at Gangapur Health Post and Kamiyadada Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality-6, and 1 male and 15 females participated in the process. 

 “Males have to go outside to work so they need to be strong is the mindset behind the better participation of women in permanent sterilization. In comparison to the hilly settlers, the Tharu community sends their women for permanent sterilization,” said Shrestha. 

The mobile camp for permanent sterilization is being run from November 30 to December 18.
