One teenager killed, another injured in Dang assault

By Liladhar Oli, Ghorahi, April 4: A teenage boy died and another has been injured following an assault in Deukhuri of Dang district.

The body of Smit Pradhan, of Barahakhutti in Rapti Rural Municipality–2, was found on Friday afternoon.

According to police, 16-year-old Ayushman Thapa Magar, a resident of Pankhapani in Rapti Rural Municipality-1, and 17-year-old Smit Pradhan of Barahakhutti, Rapti Rural Municipality-2, had left their homes on Thursday night at around 8 PM, saying they were going to a friend’s house.

Police said that when the two reached the Maurighat area of Rapti Rural Municipality-4, they were allegedly assaulted by two women and two unidentified men.

Ayushman sustained injuries to his back, left eye, cheek, and ear in the attack. He is currently receiving treatment at Rapti Basic Hospital, Sisahaniya, according to Police Inspector Pushkar Singh Airi of the Area Police Office, Bhaluwang.

Police said they received information about the incident at around 4 AM on Friday at the Area Police Office, Sisahaniya, after which a police team was deployed to the scene.

Initially, the injured Ayushman did not reveal full details about the incident. However, he later informed police that Smit Pradhan had been with him, prompting an intensified search operation.

During the search, police recovered Smit’s body on Friday afternoon from the dry riverbed near Gopi stream, about 1.5 kilometers east of the incident site. According to Inspector Airi, the body had visible injuries to the head.

Police have said that further investigation into the incident is underway.
