Reading and listening to religious scriptures helps build good character: VP Yadav

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Oct. 6: Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav has expressed his belief that studying and listening to religious scriptures will help in building good conduct, manners, temperament and character of a person and make their mind calm and healthy.

He believes that such pursuits contribute to a calm and healthy mind, inspire people to faithfully fulfill their duties, and serve as guiding principles for the betterment of society and the country. He made this remark while addressing the Release of Ramayana songs collection of the great poet Bhanubhakta Acharya held in Jangi Adda Bhadrakali, Kathmandu on Thursday.

Vice President Yadav expressed his delight that Bhanubhakta Acharya’s ‘Ramayana’, originally composed in Sanskrit between 1898-1925 BS, had been brought to life through a song collection by esteemed singer Lochan Bhattarai.

He emphasised the significance of texts like the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Puranas, not only for the development of language, literature, and culture but also for nurturing qualities such as religiousness, spirituality, sociability, and morality. He highlighted the longstanding belief in Hindu society that reciting the name of God ‘Ram’ can bring peace and strength.

Vice President Yadav pointed out that following Valmiki’s Ramayana, the Adhyatma (spiritual) Ramayana holds a notable position in the narrative of Ram and in Nepali literature, spiritual Ramayana occupies a prominent place.

He appreciated Bhanubhakta for adding originality to his Ramayana and presenting it in a simple language that resonates with the lives of ordinary Nepali people.

He emphasised that reading Bhanubhakta’s work provides an experience akin to reading the original book, making it immensely popular among the Nepali speakers.

The Vice President praised Bhanubhakta’s Ramayana for possessing the three essential qualities of poetry such as elegance, simplicity, and originality of ideas. He noted that Bhanubhakta’s Nepali Ramayana, despite being a translation from Sanskrit, captures the essence of Nepali culture and identity, making it engaging and relatable.

Vice President Yadav expressed appreciation for using music and harmonious voices to share the works of Bhanubhakta, which have deeply touched the hearts of the Nepali people with devotion.

He acknowledged the efforts of singer and composer Lochan Bhattarai in creating a melodious and original song collection and expressed his confidence that it would further popularise Bhanubhakta’s Ramayana.
