By Ajay Shah, Gaushala (Mahottari), May 10: The farmers of northern Mahottari District in the last few year are moving their interest towards a modern banana farming.
The farmers want to go for a large scale and price worthy advance quality banana farming from the traditional farming system.
The Robusta, G9 banana, Williams Hybrid and high variety Malbhog bananas are the primary choice of farmers of Gausala, Bhangaha rural municipality, Sonama and Samsi rural municipality rather than traditional Mirchman, Jhapari, Battisa and the local Malbhog.
Ramekwal Mahato of Gausala rural municipality-11, Bharatpur has G9, Robusta, Malbhog variety banana farming for the last five years. He said that he is earning the profit of more than Rs 3 lakh each year.
Mahato further added, “ Banana are selling at a price of Rs 4.50 for each”.
According to Krishi Gyan Kendra (Agriculture Knowledge Center) acting chief Dewanand Ray there is high quality variety banana farming in more than 100 hectre area in Gaushala, Bhangaha, Samsi.
He informed that there banana farming is stretched in 3000 hectre land. The banana farming has productivity tenure of more than 5 years.
Orchard development officer, Abiral Kumar Mahato Kushwaha, said that there is good market opportunity of robusta and E9 in Mahottari.
Meanwhile, there is necessity of providing technical support from Agriculture Knowledge Center and municipality branch.
He said that the farmers are demanding a programme for ensuring high-quality and proven modern agriculture technology and production store and market management effectively.
