Paropakar Maternity Hospital launches online ticketing

Kathmandu, Sept 6: Minister for Health and Population Mohan Bahadur Basnet has said the government is committed to expanding the services of Paropakar Maternity and Women's Hospital from its newly constructed building at Kupandole.     

In his virtual address to the 64th anniversary of the hospital today, the Minister pledged to restructure the hospital, underlining the need to make its services digital-friendly. 

"The initiatives to launch one more hospital pharmacy, online ticketing, payment through QR code and the expansion of the existing 10-bed ICU to a 20-bed facility are expected to boost the quality of hospital services," said the Minister.     

Also speaking on the occasion, National Planning Commission member Pro Dr RP Bichcha said the upcoming 16th period plan prioritised the management of human resources in health facilities while Ministry secretary Dev Kumari Guragain applauded the role of hospitals in mitigating maternal mortality rates. She added the government was trying to address the issue of workforce insufficiency in the facility.     

Hospital director Shree Prasad Adhikari took time to urge the government to ensure the additional management of resources and workforce in the hospital so that it could expand its specialized services.     

The hospital that was established in 2016 BS as a 40-bed facility now provides the same services as a 489-bed entity. On the occasion, Dr Adhikari said the hospital even manages temporary beds to provide maternity care when its beds are fully occupied instead of referring patients to other facilities.     

In the fiscal year 2079-80 BS, a total of 34,185 patients were admitted to the hospital, with 26,947 receiving maternity services and 5,006 receiving gynaecological care. The hospital recorded 24,915 births, including 9,821 through C-sections during that period. In addition to this, 38 individuals received IVF services, and 8,309 visited its infertility OPD.     

Furthermore, the hospital's one-stop crisis management centre (OCMC) provided support to 403 survivors of gender-based violence and sexual violence. The hospital is also planning to expand its efforts in cervical cancer screening and treatment, as well as to provide HPV vaccination to adolescents in the near future.     

On the occasion, 'online ticketing' for the hospital's OPD service was launched. (RSS)
