Community forests serve as source of income generation

By Our Correspondent,Kavrepalanchok, Aug. 11: CPN (UML) Chair K.P. Sharma Oli has said that community forest should be oriented towards creating jobs and generating income. 

Addressing the ‘Afforestation Programme’ organised in Alchha Community Forest, Dhulikhel-2, Oli said, “There is a great role of community forest members in conserving the forests across Nepal.” 

Chairman Oli said, “Among the forest areas, community forests are the safest and most conserved, so we should plant fruit trees and create opportunities for income generation.” 

He suggested planting the saplings of black pepper, clove, cashew, mango, jackfruit, guava, litchi, etc. which grow suitably in our surroundings. He said community forests can be developed as the sources of income generation.

Addressing the programme, CPN (UML) politburo member Gokul Baskota said, without the conservation of environment life is not possible, so we should strive to conserve both environment and humans. 

In the programme, Bharati Pathak, Environment and Forest Department head of CPN (UML), said 15 indicators in the millennium development goals are related to forest.

The programme was organised by Environment Department of the CPN (UML) on the occasion of Community Forest Day.
