Two dead, five missing in Makawanpur landslide

Kathmandu, Aug 8 : Two persons died and five others have gone missing after an incessant rainfall-triggered landslide occurred at Bagmati rural municipality-5, Sikredobhan in Makawanpur district in Bagmati Province on Tuesday.     

The deceased have been identified as Santa Maya Sotang, 55, and Sila Pahari, 22, of Sikredobhan of Bagmati rural municipality-5 in the district, according to Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, Spokesperson at the Ministry of Home Affairs.     

Spokesperson Bhattarai shared that highways and roads have been obstructed by landslides in over a dozen of places across the country.     

Monsoon-induced landslides and floods have incurred damages worth over Rs 1.1 million so far.     

Efforts were underway to resume vehicular movements in the landslide-obstructed highways and roads, informed Bhattarai, adding details of the natural disasters were coming in.     

Many places have been inundated while rainfall continued in some places, he said. (RSS)
