Minister Sharma for self-regulation of media

Kathmandu, Aug 7 : Minister for Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma has said that management of the new media could be done through its self-regulation.     

Addressing the 'Editor Dialogue' programme organized by Press Council Nepal on Monday in Bhaktapur, Minister Sharma said that management of the new media should be done within though self-regulation of the new media was a challenging job.     

 "The new media is also the media. It is struggling to move ahead. The greatest thing is the issue of self-regulation and code of conduct. Law is also needed if it is not abided (self-regulation and code of conduct). Let's think about this," Minister Sharma urged.     

On the occasion, Minister Sharma said that the media is required to highlight the positive developments of the time well adding that the media is more focused on critical stories.     

     

 "There are positive things as well in the society. Let's encourage them," Sharma asked.     

Chairman of Press Council Nepal Bal Krishna Basnet, former chairman of Council Rajendra Dahal, senior journalist Kishor Nepal, journalist Babita Basnet and others also expressed their views at the event

Meanwhile, Minister Sharma held discussions with the top level management of Radio Nepal on Monday about its transmission capacity extension and programme diversification.     

On the occasion, Minister Sharma directed the top level management of Radio Nepal to work to provide direct benefit to the people. (RSS)
