IT could be primary source of foreign exchange: Governor Adhikari

Kathmandu, July 31: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) governor Maha Prasad Adhikari said that information technology (IT) could be a primary source for foreign exchange earning.

Speaking at a program titled 'National Dissemination Conference on IT sector growth in Nepal' at Institute for Integrated Development Studies (IIDS) Adhikari viewed that there is growth in e-commerce, digital transition in the recent time.

He said that there is expansion online service like fintech company, online trading, commercial online payment, and online remittance. 

Governor informed that NRB has been working to validate use of digital currency by 2026. He said that IT sector has contribution of about 2 per cent in gross domestic product (GDP). He viewed that export of IT service could become reliable source of earning foreign currency.

Adhikari said that NRB has been working towards keeping IT in its top priority.
