NEPSE falls by 53 points in a single day

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, July 3: The benchmark of share market index, NEPSE, has tumbled by double digits on Sunday, first trading day of the week.

The NEPSE index declined by a whopping 53.70 points (2.50 per cent) to close at 2,097.29 points today.  

The NEPSE had declined by 35.37 points on Wednesday, last week.

The sensitive index which measures the performance of group ‘A’ companies declined by 12.23 points (3.04 per cent) to close at 390.52 points.

The sub-indices of all groups have decreased sharply in today’s transaction.

Sub-index of microfinance group posted the highest fall of 198.25 points followed by hotels and tourism and life insurance group whose indices decreased by 154.63 points and 151.31 points respectively.

The sub-index of development bank group has decreased by 136.21 points, manufacturing and processing by 129.12 points and non-life insurance group by 113.32 points.

Similarly, hydropower, trading, finance and banking group’s sub-indices decreased by 79.68 points, 60.44 points, 38.17 points and 29.88 points, respectively.

Sub-index of others decreased by 37.41 points, mutual fund by 0.12 points and investment by 1.01 points in today's transaction.

With the fall in NEPSE index, there has also been a decline in the turnover.

A total of 11,323,183 shares worth Rs. 5.08 billion of 286 companies were bought and sold in 74,441 transactions today. 

The shares worth Rs. 5.91 billion were traded on Wednesday, last week.

Share prices of Shrijanshil Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha saw the biggest drop by 9.32 per cent, followed by Mountain Energy Nepal by 9.12 per cent and Grameen Bikas Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha by 8.01 points.

However, share prices of BPW Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha posted the highest growth by 10 per cent, followed by City Hotel by 9.98 per cent, NCC Debenture 2086 by 7.78 per cent and Laxmi Equity Fund by 5.56 per cent.
