By Our Correspondent,Dhangadhi, June 26: Sudurpashchim Province Minister for Social Development Jhapat Bahadur Saud has stressed unity among the members of society to control drug abuse.

Minister Saud made the remarks while addressing a programme in Dhangadhi on Sunday on the eve of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking marked annually on June 26.

"Drug abuse has affected societies not only in Kailali and Kanchanpur districts but also in the hilly districts of the province. There is a need to unite against drug abuse," said Minister Saud.

Directing concerned authorities to increase awareness campaigns against drug abuse, Minister Saud pledged necessary support from the provincial government. A report discussed in the programme showed that at least five to six individuals get arrested under drug-related cases in Sudurpashchim Province daily.

Speaking at the programme, Harish Ojha, headmaster of Panchodaya Secondary School, urged the authorities to allow school children to counseling the children involved in drug abuse for proper motivation.

"Families should also be aware. For instance, if children demand more money, parents should keep an eye on them. Families and friends have an important role to save an individual from drug abuse," said Asha Thapa, public health nurse at the Kailali Health Office.
