Electoral system needs to be made more inclusive: Thapa

blog

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, June 25: Nepali Congress general secretary Gagan Thapa has underlined the need of change in electoral system of the House of Representatives.

Speaking at a programme in Capital on Saturday, he said election system of the Lower House of the Parliament should be changed to make it more inclusive.

“Our parliament needs to be made inclusive. But present election system of the Lower House needs to change and alternative adopted for inclusive House,” he said.

Thapa said the NC now should be focused on social problems.

Thapa urged the ruling alliance to perform in a satisfactory manner. The NC general secretary has said that the ruling alliance would change if it (the coalition government) did not act effectively.

He said that if the government’s performance was not satisfactory, then it would not be a surprise it collapsed.

Thapa insisted that changing alliance and forming a new government was not a new thing.

“We are now in a coalition, if the coalition does not go well, it will change” Thapa said. “A new government will be formed, and it will not be something strange. Coalitions build and break.”

He said that even if the communists contested as one force in the election, NC could easily face and defeat them.

Thapa further said that it was wrong to form an alliance before the elections, fearing fall from the government.
