blog

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May 29: President Ramchandra Paudel has extended greetings on the occasion of the 16th Republic Day to be marked on Monday. On the eve of the Day, President Paudel expressed his best wishes for happiness, peace and prosperity to all Nepali citizens living in the country and abroad.

The President has also paid a heartfelt tribute to the immortal martyrs who sacrificed their precious lives for the establishment of a democratic republic 15 years ago.

Expressing his respect for the leadership of the political parties who led the movement for the establishment of the republic at various times, President Paudel appreciated the contribution of all the political activists, civil society leaders and others who participated in it. “Until all of us are awakened to the feeling that politics is not a profession or a business that settles the accounts of profits and losses, wrong tendencies and influence will remain even in the political leadership born from within us,” the President stated in his message.

He was also of the view that political leaders will be able to understand the reality and prove that politics is a spirit of service to the country and the people, to change our behaviour and promote nationalism and national unity through a federal democratic republican governance system and a parliamentary democratic system based on pluralism.

After seventy years of struggle, the nation has moved to one particular system in the country and that is federal democratic republicanism. The power has reached the hands of the people at the grassroots. People's access and rights to state power are being established through thousands of people's representatives from the ward level, he stated.

The Federal Democratic Republic is the only such system which works as the best means to provide services, facilities and development in people's homes. President Paudel also expressed his best wishes to all of the citizens to get inspiration from this historic day to promote nationalism and national unity through federal democratic republican governance system and parliamentary democratic system based on pluralism.

Meanwhile, RSS adds: Vice-President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav has extended greetings on the occasion of 16th Republic Day. In a message of best wishes on the occasion, VP Yadav has wished all the Nepalis sisters and brothers at home and abroad and expressed and extended heartfelt tributes to all the martyrs sacrificing their 'precious' lives to establish democratic republic.

In the message, Yadav said, "I express high regard to all those who were injured and succumbed to the struggles from historic people's movement to armed movement, Madhesh movement to protect and promote rights of indigenous communities.

Also, my high regard to those pioneer leaders, civic communities, civil societies and media persons among those who led those struggles and movements."  Similarly, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has said that the development of democracy is possible within a democracy.

In a message of best wishes today on the occasion of the Republic Day, Prime Minister Dahal has said that the present government is working to institutionalise the political changes achieved through great struggle and sacrifices and transforming the country from a least developed to a developing and developed one.

"Constitution and republic are becoming widely accepted, basic services are being provided to the people through the enforcement of fundamental rights, rights of marginalized communities of different class, caste, language, religion, region, gender and culture are being established which is laying a strong foundation for the republican system to be institutionalized,” he has said in the message. Stating that the day today should be remembered as a historic day, he said the struggle for ending the dynastic feudal system and establishing a people's system was never easy.

"Today we have become respected and sovereign citizens of a free, sovereign and democratic country. Today, the country is being run by people's representatives elected by the people. It is a matter of pride to have constitutional guarantee for equal rights and opportunities and status to all Nepalis without any discrimination."
