Minister Modi inspects under-implementation projects in Suryodaya

By Our Correspondent,Pashupatinagar, Apr. 6: Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Aman Lal Modi has inspected the projects being implemented in Suryodaya Municipality of Ilam under the Local Government Support Programme. 

Minister Modi on Tuesday monitored the site where a glass bridge and 12-km cycling track are to be constructed in the municipality under the innovation programme conducted in the city.

The cycling track with a glass bridge is being constructed at a cost of over Rs. 100 million from the Innovation Partnership Fund between the Koshi Regional Programme Implementation Unit and the municipality.

Minister Modi inspected and instructed to complete the project in time. He said that the work being done to make the city a tourist destination should be completed in time.

The work of the Ministry seems like a mere transfer and promotion and the government stands ready to bring the Federal Civil Act soon, he said. He also said that the Act should be effected to implement federalism and added that anti-federalism activities are increasing, so it is necessary to explain the progress brought by federalism at the local level.

Sirjan Gadal, the city's architectural engineer, informed the construction of a 150-metre-long glass bridge in Manedanda of Suryodaya-8 and a cycling track from Kanyam-6 to the Purnedanda of Suryodaya-12 is in progress.

The planned reconstruction of historical fencing gumba of the Lapcha caste is among the six programmes being implemented in the municipality.  

Milan Bhattarai, chief administrative officer of the municipality, informed that there was a programme of teaching skills related to food dishes reflecting local culture and promoting ethnic identity. The work started by the municipality will help hundreds of women in the area where the project is being implemented, he said.

The Mayor of the municipality, Ran Bahadur Rai, said that after the construction of the cycling track with the glass bridge, the attraction of foreign as well as domestic tourists will increase.

“Kanyam will become the only destination where you can enjoy cycling while adoring the tea garden,” he said. 

Bhupendra Sapkota, National Programme Manager of the Province and Local Government Support Programme, Mayor Rai, Shravan Kumar Pokhrel, Chief District Officer of Ilam, and Milan Bhattarai, Chief Administrative Officer of the municipality, were present during the inspection.
