By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 21: With the slogan 'Plan your money, plant your future', 'Global Money Week - 2023' has started in the country from Monday.
It is the eleventh edition of the Global Money Week, which is held for a week in the month of March every year.
On the first day of the campaign, Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) organised a financial awareness programme in Lalitpur with the participation of more than 100 students from various colleges.
The event was organised in collaboration with Nepal Insurance Authority, Securities Board of Nepal, Department of Cooperative and National Banking Institute Limited.
Inaugurating the event, Governor of NRB Maha Prasad Adhikari said that there was a tendency to consume and spend more than to save in Nepal.
"Compared to the national income, our saving trend is weak. So, we should develop the habit of saving. Savings will show the way to investment and income," he said.
He said that the campaign of Global Money Week is an important opportunity for increasing financial awareness among young students.
Governor Adhikari asked the students to get information about the financial sector like banking, capital market, and insurance, and to transfer the knowledge/skills they have learned to their family and society.
As part of the campaign, which will be conducted till March 26, in coordination with Nepal Rastra Bank, awareness programmes will be conducted which will help in increasing financial awareness throughout the country, according to the NRB.
Financial awareness programmes aimed at youth will be organised separately through Nepal Insurance Authority, Securities Board of Nepal, Department of Cooperatives, National Banking Institute Limited, Employees Provident Fund and Citizen Investment Trust.
Also, banks and financial institutions, payment service providers, remittance companies will operate Global Money Week targeted programmes.
With the promotion of financial literacy and expansion of financial access, it is expected to help achieve the goal of economic prosperity of the country by creating self-employment and development of entrepreneurship, increasing production and income level.
The Global Money Week is a campaign started globally to raise awareness about the importance of financial education among teenagers and young adults.
In conjunction with the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), this campaign has been conducted in more than 170 countries every year since 2012.
