ANFA, Maiti Nepal mark Int'l Women's Day

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 9: All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) marked International Women's Day with AFC Women's Football Day programme at ANFA Complex in Satdobato on Wednesday.

During the function, ANFA President Pankaj Bikram Nembang said the upcoming Women's Olympic Football Asian Qualifiers matches in April was part of ANFA's long-term plan to prioritize women's football in the country. Member of House of Representatives Dr Toshima Karki wished the team well in the upcoming tournament.

Karki cut the cake to begin the Women's Day celebration at ANFA Complex. A cultural dance was also performed during the celebrations. Member of the national football team and U-17 national women's team played a friendly match on the occasions.

Meanwhile, Maiti Nepal also organised a futsal event to celebrate International Women's Day. The futsal competition was held among the participants of Maiti Nepal Women's Rehabilitation Center at Dhuku Futsal, Chandol. 

During the event, Member of the House of Representatives Dr Arju Deuba Rana emphasized the importance of women's participation in sports. She also called for greater investment in women's athletes at all levels. 

Paralympic gold medallist Richard Whitehead was also present during the futsal event. Executive director Bishwo Ram Khadka said Maiti Nepal is proud to celebrate Women's day by promoting women's sports and raising awareness about gender equality."
