Tamghas, July 23: There has been a demand for free sanitary pads for girls saying that they face a lot of problems during menstruation in public and
workplaces.
Manisha Gharti, from Chandrakot Rural Municipality, demanded free sanitary pads for girls in public and workplaces from the local level government
saying that many young girls go through many issues due to lack of provision of
pads during their menstruation in public and workplaces.
In a public hearing programme, she stressed that the confidence of the public in the public health institutions and hospitals is decreasing
so there is a need to upgrade the quality and provide reliable services. "One
can see a throng of people in private hospitals and clinics rather than in public hospitals,"
she said.
Anju Pun, a woman leader from Chandrakot Rural
Municipality, said that it is difficult for women to express their issues openly
in public places, therefore, there is a need to arrange a toll-free number to
listen to the complaints of women.
She said that the local level government should provide
such facilities for free and should set up a women's cell so that it gives a platform
for women to lodge complaints.
Thamman Bahadur Budhathoki, from Chandrakot Rural
Municipality-4, said that the construction work could not be completed on time
because of a delay in the formulation of plans and their execution.
He said that if the plans are well inspected then a standard
service in a timely manner can be delivered. Even the technicians cannot give
proper time and the hurried work later gives many complications.
Yuvaraj K.C., Chairperson of the Chandrakot Rural
Municipality, said that there is an arrangement of free sanitary pads in
schools.
He said, "Sanitary pads will be arranged in other public as well as government offices."
