Resunga Airport: Locals await to board flight for 16 years

By Tilachan Pandey, Tamghas, June 20: Even after 16 years of the laying of the foundation stone and subsequent completion of construction of the Resunga Airport, the locals in Gulmi district are yet to board a flight.

The foundation stone for the construction of the airport was laid in 2006 by the then Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Pradeep Kumar Gyawali.

Four years have elapsed since the Tara Air plane made a successful test flight in 2018 from the airport.

However, locals' dream to board a flight from their hometown has remained evasive.

Discouraging is the fact that the people's representatives in the center, province and local levels have started to avoid reiterating their commitments that they would voice for bringing the airport into operation.

Sub-Engineer of the Resunga Airport, Dinesh Pariyar, said that Rs. 329 million has been invested in the construction so far.

The construction of the airport has been almost completed. Fencing of the airport, black topping of the runway, construction of outer sewerage, construction of terminal building and runway marking have been finished.

Pariyar said a little work of tower construction has remained to be completed.

Spread in 156 ropanis of land, the runway of the airport is 520 meters long and 20 meters wide.

The sub-engineer said that they had already informed the concerned department about the completion of the construction.

14 settlements were relocated while the land of 28 households was acquired for the construction of the airport.

Khila Dhwoj Panthi, Mayor of the Resunga Municipality, assured of bringing the airport into operation at the earliest by cooperating with the concerned stakeholders.
