By Santosh Raut, Solukhumbu, June 19: Locals have been panicked due to the attack of Himalayan wolves in the Khumbu region of the Solukhumbu district.
Data showed that the number of attacks of the Himalayan wolves on livestock in the region has increased in the last few years.
According to the data provided by the Sagarmatha National Park (SNP), more than 323 livestock have been killed from the attack of the wild animals from mid-2020 to mid-2021 around the national park region.
The SNP has provided more than Rs 90 lakh to livestock farmers as compensation. Locals have said that Himalayan wolves have been creating major problems in the protection of livestock animals. The Himalayan wolf is said to be the least researched animal in Nepal.
According to the annual report, out of 323 killed animals, 234 were killed by Himalayan wolves, informed the information officer at the SNP Bishnu Rokaya.
In 2013, the government implemented the first directive to compensate if livestock is killed by an elephant, rhino, bear, tiger, leopard, wild boar and white buffalo.
In 2015, Himalayan wolf, clouded leopard and wild dog were added to the list by the government. According to the SNP office in Namche Bazaar, SNP provides Rs 30,000 as compensation if domestic animal killed by the Himalayan wolf.
